Ho-Yan Agnes Wan-Patterson

SUFFOLK—Ho-Yan Agnes Wan-Patterson, 42 of Suffolk, passed away on Friday Sept. 27, 2019. Born in Hong Kong, she was the daughter of Peter Wan and Teresa Lam. Agnes received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa and an artist diploma from the University of Cincinnati College — Conservatory of Music. She obtained her bachelor of music (with honors) degree and double master’s degrees in music therapy and piano performance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Loyola University New Orleans, respectively. Agnes Wan previously served on the faculties of Maryville College, the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, and Chowan University. She was an assistant professor of piano at Virginia State University and an adjunct lecturer of applied music (piano) at the College of William and Mary. In September 2013, she was invited to join the roster of Steinway Artist, an honorable designation she has since held.
She is survived by her husband Gary Patterson; sons, Gavin Zachary Patterson, Gilon Spencer Emmanuel Patterson; father and mother-in-law, Glen W. Patterson and Mary Sneed Patterson; and a brother, Raymond Wan.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct 7, 10 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield. A visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, 3-4p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
