Martha Brown Powell, 93, died Oct. 30, 2019.  She was the daughter of Robert Elmer Brown and Josie Lee Whitley Brown.  She was predeceased by her husband, James Melvin Powell; daughter, Sylvia Jean Powell; son, James Melvin (Bubba) Powell Jr.; her parents and three brothers.  She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Smithfield and Patricia Starnes of California; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Bess B. Cochran (Steve) of Florida; brothers, Glenn Brown (Cathy) of Kentucky and Joseph Brown of Smithfield; special sister-in-law, June Powell Adams (Stan) of Fredericksburg; and many nieces and nephews.  Family will receive friends at the home.  A graveside service will be held at Battery Park Cemetery, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m.
