Packers keep netting wins

The Smithfield High School varsity basketball team brought home two more victories against Warhill High School on Jan. 29 and Poquoson High School. 

Last Wednesday, the Packers bested the Warhill Lions with a final score of 77-49, adding another win to their conference season.

Two days later, the Packers beat the Poquoson High School Islanders with a final score of 60-52, bringing the Packers district standing to 11-2, wins to losses. 

Up next, the Packers play the Lafayette High School Rams today at 7 p.m. 

The Rams have been leading in the Bay Rivers District, with the Packers and the Jamestown High School Eagles sparring for second place throughout the first half of the season. 

The Eagles and the Rams are the only two teams in the district that have bested the Packers so far, with the Rams securing a win on Dec. 18 in Williamsburg with a final score of 56-40 and the Eagles taking theirs Jan. 17 in Smithfield, with a final score of 66-50. 

Lafayette is the only team in the district that has remained undefeated during their regular conference, while Jamestown sits at 11-2, wins to losses, according to maxpreps.com.
