Barbara H. King

Barbara H. King, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep just after midnight on April 1 in Smithfield.  

Born in Massachusetts in 1931 to Salamie H. Hassen (1910-1989) and Margaret D. Hassen, she had five siblings, two who predeceased her. She was predeceased by her first husband of 6 years, Thomas Wilkes, and her second husband of 45 years, Moscoe King. Left to remember Barbara are four grown children, Susan, Lynn, Mike and Chris; as well as her two sisters and brother, Mary, Carol, and Charles; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

Barbara taught English in Portsmouth Public Schools for over 20 years. After her retirement from Churchland High School where she was loved by many, she continued to enjoy painting, quilting, gardening, traveling in her RV and working in her yard. 

Barbara asked to be cremated. Commemorative services are not being scheduled at this time due to the coronavirus and CDC restrictions. A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be published in the “Obituaries” section of the Little’s Funeral Home website, https://www.littlesfuneralhome.com/.
