One person died and another sustained life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon in a two-car accident in Surry County.
The wreck occurred just before 4 p.m. at Beechland and White Marsh roads. Virginia State Police troopers who responded to the scene found one of the drivers dead and the other critically injured, according to spokeswoman Michelle Anaya.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Glenn Miller, the driver of a 2003 Honda Accord, stopped at the intersection, then proceeded through the intersection and was struck by a northbound 2013 GMC Sierra truck driven by Robert Lee White, 81, of the 2500 block of Golden Hill Road in Surry County. White, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died on impact. Miller, who also was not wearing his seatbelt, was flown by helicopter to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
Miller failed to yield right of way, Anaya said.
