The local chapter (of 32 members) serves the counties of Isle of Wight and Surry. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. began in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The membership counts 300,000-plus members nationally and internationally. The sorority endeavors to “provide service to all mankind.”
