Editor, The Smithfield Times:

If you believe in our democracy and care about who gets elected this November then you must vote! If you have concerns regarding health and safety please know that there are other options to vote that can ease your mind. They are:

  • Early voting. Starting Sept. 18 through Oct. 31 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also Saturday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. early voting will be available. The location is the registrar’s office at 17106 Monument Circle, Isle of Wight. You can vote there on these dates in the same way you would vote at your normal polling place on Election Day.
  • Vote by mail. Apply online and track your ballot by visiting the “citizen portal” on the Virginia Department of Elections website and clicking on “apply to vote absentee by mail.”

Also you can get a vote-by-mail application online by visiting the voter information page on the Isle of Wight County website, or call the registrar’s office and request a vote by mail application at 757-365-6230. Additionally, you can request a vote by mail application by emailing vote@iwus.net.

You may mail the ballot or deliver your marked ballot to the general registrar’s office until 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. Please know only the voter can return their own ballot.

Any questions should be directed to general registrar’s office at 757-365-6230.
