All Isle of Wight County schools and school departments will be closed Friday, Sept. 18, due to the potential for flooding in the area, the school division announced late Thursday. Employees will be working from home on Friday.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, a flash flood watch and coastal flood advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, were in effect. A 100% chance of rain was forecast through Thursday night, with the rain expected to continue through the day on Friday. In addition, winds were forecast to gust to nearly 25 miles per hour Friday.

School division spokeswoman Lynn Briggs also said the meal distribution scheduled for Friday at Smithfield High and Georgie Tyler Middle has been rescheduled to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 21.
