Times to celebrate 100 years
Readers and advertisers are invited to help The Smithfield Times celebrate its 100th year of publication.
Barring a surge in local COVID-19 cases, the newspaper will host a “socially distanced” party from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, on the front lawn of the Times office at 228 Main St. Cake and punch will be served.
“We’re proud to mark 100 years of continuous publication and service to the people of Isle of Wight and Surry,” said Publisher Steve Stewart.
Publisher Emeritus John Edwards and his wife, Anne, will be honored for their many years of service to the newspaper and the Summer Concert Series, which was canceled this year because of COVID-19.
Joel Joyner, director of bands at Smithfield High School, will entertain guests.
