Charles “Bubba” Randall Saunders Jr., 75, of Smithfield, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2020. He was the son of the late Charles Randall Saunders and Florence Joyner Saunders.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Helen Rakes Saunders; her daughters, Linda Firth (Roger), Charlotte Reece (David) and Shirley Colby (Chuck); and cousins, Robert Reveal and Dot Reveal.

After graduating from high school, Charles joined the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam, where he earned two Purple Hearts. Upon leaving the Marines, he went to work for Dominion Power, where he retired from after 37 years of service. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing music at the area Moose Lodges and especially doing karaoke.
