Suspects charged in Sedley man’s murder

Investigators with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office have charged 20-year-old Jaylin La’Shun Freeman and 19-year-old Shamon Reid-Wilkerson with the murder of a Southampton County man.
The investigation began after the body of 19-year-old Casey Dakota Cagle, of Sedley, was discovered unresponsive in a car on Dec. 6 in the Beaverbrook Mobile Home Park near Carrsville. According to sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Tommy Potter, the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide after it was determined that Cagle died from a gunshot wound. The motive for the murder appears to be robbery.
Freeman, whose last known address was in the 32000 block of Riverdale Drive in Southampton County, was apprehended late on Dec. 18 in the 1600 block of Dorchester Square Apartments in Franklin with the assistance of the Franklin Police Department, the Virginia State Police and the Windsor Police Department.
Freeman is being charged with second-degree murder, robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Reid-Wilkerson was arrested on Dec. 21 in the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office. His last known address was the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive, Franklin. He was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Both were remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond.
Investigators also carried out a search warrant at the home of Reid-Wilkerson in the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive later on Monday evening.
