The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to create turn lanes at the intersection of Route 10 and Bacons Castle Trail in Surry County, with construction starting in the spring of 2024.
According to VDOT spokeswoman Kelly Alvord, the $5.99 million project is currently in the design phase, and will also include land clearing to increase sight distance at the intersection.
During construction, through traffic in both directions and access to all properties will be maintained.
According to VDOT’s website, Route 10’s current average daily traffic of roughly 5,800 vehicles is projected to increase to 9,400 by 2045.
