Frank Simpson Robertson, 84, of Smithfield, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021.

A native of Norfolk, he was born July 3, 1936, son of the late William A. Robertson and Virginia Maxwell Simpson. Mr. Robertson graduated from Maury High School and Randolph Macon College, class of ’58. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a major.

Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judith C. Robertson, of Smithfield; daughter, Claire R. Wooley (Dave), of Smithfield; son, W. Frank Robertson II (Susan), of Oldsmar, Fla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his favorite canine companions, Double Bogey and Charlie Brown. Frank had a lifelong passion for sports and was a member of the Norfolk Sports Club for more than 50 years. He served as president in 1974, and received the Joe Brown award for the Outstanding Norfolk Sports Club member in 1976. From the relationships he established at the Greater Greensboro Open (now known as the PGA Wyndham Championship), Frank is credited for attracting professional athletes from the Redskins, Colts and other organizations for the Kingsmill Celebrity Classic. Frank chaired and was instrumental in creating this event, that helped fund many athletic scholarships for local Virginia athletes. He will be missed on the courses and especially by his buddies from “The Great Escape.”

Per Frank’s request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Riverside Hospice. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
