Editor, The Smithfield Times:

A letter to the editor in last week’s edition (“Disappointed in BLM, NAACP”) was critical of the head of the Isle of Wight NAACP for comments made about the police incident in Windsor.

In the same section of the paper on the back page was a detailed explanation of the fact-finding the IW NAACP did regarding the incident. This led them to write a letter with specific suggestions to town and local elected officials.

I commend and thank the leader of our local IW NAACP for doing what her position required, which was leading the process to gather facts and, based on those, suggesting actions to be taken.
