Smithfield boys soccer team is golden in regional title win

Smithfield High School’s top-seeded varsity boys soccer team broke a scoreless tie with No. 2 Menchville High School in the third overtime of the Region 4A Tournament title game June 17 when Baylor Ullmer scored a golden goal to give the undefeated Packers a 1-0 championship victory and a berth in the state tournament.

Ullmer’s goal was assisted by Dusty Armstrong.

The loss was the first of the season for the Monarchs, who finish their 2021 campaign 11-1-1.

The Packers (13-0) will begin play in the Virginia High School League Class 4 State Tournament on June 21 at the home site of the Region 4B champion.
