Camp open houses scheduled

All Camp Community College locations fully reopened at 8 a.m. July 19, including the campus in Franklin, the Oliver K. Hobbs Campus in Suffolk, and the Camp Smithfield Center, and all three facilities will have open houses in August.
The campuses in Franklin and Suffolk were partially open to students since the beginning of the pandemic March 2020, while the center in Smithfield has been shuttered during that time.
Services that were being offered remotely because of the pandemic will return to college buildings.
Effective July 19, all administrative departments and offices on campus will be open with an in-person presence during regular business hours to serve the on-campus community.
“Although safety is always a priority, following the governor’s guidelines, we are in favorable conditions now to re-open the buildings for students and staff,” said Corey McCray, interim president. “Although our staff did a great job of providing services during the time we needed to have restrictions, we are glad to be able to see our students face-to-face again.”
It is expected that those who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 will take precautions such as wearing a mask and adhere to other safety protocols while on campus.
In addition, the college will hold “Back to Growing Your Future” open houses at all three sites. The schedule for open houses includes:
- Camp Smithfield Center, 3-6 p.m., Aug. 4
- Oliver K. Hobbs Suffolk Campus, 3-6 p.m., Aug. 12
- Franklin Campus, 9 a.m. to noon, Aug. 14
Potential students will be able to apply for admissions, have their transcript evaluated, meet with an advisor, discuss funding options, and complete the FAFSA.
Registration for the fall semester is under way. Fall classes will begin Aug. 23. Camp’s fall schedule includes classes that meet on campus, classes that are fully online, and hybrid classes that include both on-campus and virtual learning.
Camp’s Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin will continue to offer affordable programs to help students gain industry credentials, professional licensing, or technologically advanced skills employers are seeking as well as provide customized training for business and industry.
