The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to close the southbound lanes of Route 17 (Carrollton Boulevard) at the highway’s intersection with Route 258 (Brewers Neck Boulevard).

The closure is expected to begin as early as 6 p.m. Aug. 7 and remain in place through 6 a.m. Aug. 9 while crews perform drainage work as part of a state- and local-funded intersection improvement project.

A signed detour will direct passenger vehicles traveling on Route 17 south toward Suffolk to:

  • Turn right onto Route 258,
  • Make a U-turn at Deep Bottom Drive,
  • Continue on Route 258 east, and
  • Turn right back onto Route 17 south.

Southbound tractor-trailer traffic will be directed to:

  • Turn right onto Route 258,
  • Turn left onto Deep Bottom Drive, and
  • Turn right back onto Route 17 south.

Motorists turning left from Route 258 onto Route 17 toward Newport News will not be impacted. Motorists traveling north on Route 17 will still have the ability to turn left onto Route 258 west. The closure and detour will not restrict access to businesses along Route 17.
