George Franklin Jones Sr., 72, of Smithfield, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021.

He was the son of the late George Edward Jones and Maggie Mae Edwards Jones. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Brock Jones; daughter, Nancy Lynn Jones (Shawn Cowan); son, George “Tody” Franklin Jones Jr.; grandchildren, Haley, Logan, Dani, Robert, Racheal and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Abel and Landyn; sister, Jean Bowden; and a brother, Joseph G. Jones (Joanne). He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Davis Jones.

George retired as a maintenance supervisor after 28 years with Smithfield Packing Company. He enjoyed wood working and was an excellent carpenter. He was a member and past deacon at Central Hill Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, with burial to follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
