The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Jamestown-Scotland Ferry will begin following its summer operating schedule starting at noon on Friday, May 27.
The schedule can be found at www.vdot.virginia.gov/travel/resources/Hampton_Roads/JSF_Summer_Schedule.pdf.
The summer schedule offers more frequent trips on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It continues through Sept. 5, and is intended to help accommodate the anticipated increase in ferry passengers during the summer travel season. At all other times, the ferry follows the fall/winter/spring schedule.
The ferry transports motorists across the James River from Surry County to Jamestown and back, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including major holidays, as a free service. There are four ferries.
Once on board, the trip takes approximately 20 minutes.
More information on the ferry, including schedules and views of traffic queues approximately one-half mile from the boarding locations is available at www.JSFerry.org. For updates on ferry service, motorists can call the ferry hotline at 1-800-823-3779.
