The Blackwater Regional Library will host a six-week summer reading program for youth June 25-Aug. 6.
The summer’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities” and will offer a variety of programs for families. Presentations by Bright Star Theatre, Mad Science, the Virginia Aquarium, Mariners’ Museum and the Virginia Living Museum are “just a few amazing programs the library will offer that are both educational and entertaining,” Assistant Library Director Bonnie L. Lauver said in a news release. “This summer is all about exploring what your library has to offer. No reading goals to meet, just a summer packed with activities for the whole family.”
The Summer Reading Program Impact Study, conducted by the Library of Virginia, showed children and teens who attended summer reading programs performed better academically and experienced greater gains in their academic performance than their nonparticipating peers. Participants outperformed nonparticipants on tests across all measures and grades, kindergarten through 8.
