The Smithfield Kiwanis Club just wrapped up its busiest and best time of year. Club members hosted, cooked and served up food at the Santa Breakfast at the Smithfield Center, giving kids a chance to see Santa before the town’s annual Christmas Parade on Dec 10. Kiwanian Ed Hipp and his wife, Pinky, wer among those serving up breakfast. The Isle of Wight Academy Key Club assisted. Then, on Dec. 12, the club went to work shopping for over 70 Isle of Wight children to ensure that each child would have toys under the tree. From left at the Toy Store distribution are Kiwanians Steve Bowman, Steve Butkus and Tom Patrick In addition to toys, in partnership with the Gideons, the Angel Quilters, the Woman’s Club of Smithfield and Smithfield Cares, Kiwanians were able to distribute books, quilts, knit hats and other clothing to each child. The Santa Breakfast and the Toy Store are the club’s signature events. The club thanks all that contributed financially to support these programs. The club meets at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays at Smithfield Station, and prospective members are invited to join the club for lunch.
