Two Smithfield Recreation Association all-star baseball teams made waves in national tournaments over the weekend.
The 11-and-under team won two games in the Bronco World Series in Chesapeake, beating Texas 9-3 and 6-5. Smithfield was eliminated by Mexico on Monday in a semifinal game that started Sunday and was interrupted by rain.
The double-elimination tournament also featured teams from North Carolina, California, the Philippines and Bahamas.
The Smithfield Recreation Association 12U team competed in the Pony East Zone Bronco-12 Tournament in Pittsburgh, posting a 10-0 win over West Virginia and falling twice to New York, 4-3 and 6-0.
Luke Waycaster and Noah Cox each hit a home run against West Virginia. Alexander Santana homered against New York.
