William Thomas Burris, Sr. died Aug. 4, 2023. He was born to Wardell and Maggie Burris on December 18, 1952 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. In 1964, William moved to join his mother and father in Long Island, New York; William was educated in the Roosevelt Public School System. William joined the Air Force in 1971. He worked as a truck driver for over 30 years. His most notable employer was Newsday. He is the father of two children – William Thomas Burris, Jr. and Marissa Danielle Burris, whom he raised in Long Island, New York until his move to Carrollton, Virginia in 2004. He became a business owner after retiring from his lifelong occupation as a truck driver. He was the proud owner of Burris Vending Machines and Burris Cleaning Services. Later in life, William met and married the love of his life, Willie Mae Burris. Throughout their marriage, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with loved ones, fishing, eating out and watching football. He is predeceased by his parents Wardell Burris and Maggie Dean Burris; two brothers Wardell Burris, Jr and John Nelson Burris; and his sister Dorothy O’Linda Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife of seven years Willie Mae Burris; his son William Thomas Burris, Jr.; his daughter Marissa Danielle Burris; two step-sons Charles M. Green, Jr. (Tiffany) and Jamison D. Green; and one step-daughter Jerri M. Price; and five step-grandchildren; his three sisters Joan Ward (Orlando), Nellie Rose Michell and Gloria Dean Burris; and brother Ronald Phillip Burris (Deborah); and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. 

A graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton Jr Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wish-A-Fish Foundation, Inc; C/O Skip Zinck, 1346 Brenda Road, Severn, MD 21144.
