It was a rough start to the high school football season, with all four area teams dropping their season openers.
Smithfield High lost an 11-10 heartbreaker to Norview in Norfolk.
Isle of Wight Academy fell 48-6 to Atlantic Shores at home.
Surry County lost 49-0 to Northumberland at home.
Windsor High fell 53-36 on the road to Arcadia in Oak Hall. Sophomore quarterback Jeremy Hall threw two touchdown passes for the Dukes.
IWA had beaten the same Arcadia team 43-0 in a scrimmage prior to the Chargers’ season opener. Jason Chapman rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another in the scrimmage. IWA also got rushing touchdowns from Luke Dunlap, Jack Baker and Jett Williams. Senior Sawyer Conrad also recovered a loose ball in the end zone for a safety. Dunlap also caught Chapman’s scoring toss.
Kickers Jayden Parsons and Will Bauman were 5-for-6 on extra points.
IWA plays at Portsmouth Christian on Sept. 1, while Smithfield travels to Churchland and Windsor hosts King & Queen Central. Surry has a bye this week.
