For the coming Isle of Wight County general election, Chris Torre is mounting a write-in campaign for the District 1 seat on the Board of Supervisors.

We in Smithfield and Isle of Wight are facing enormous pressures from outside developers to impose upon our quaint small communities a landscape of dense, cheek-to-jowl housing developments that are poorly vetted, sometimes behind closed doors. Now is certainly not the time to elect to the Isle of Wight Board of Supervisors anyone who has a previous history of consistently voting in favor of developers’ ambitions in the absence of rigorous examination of the economic effects, both near and long term, how much the developer will pay or how much he will demand of the taxpayers, and without due regard for the strong and widespread contrary sentiments of the taxpaying citizenry. There couldn’t be a more clear choice for the voters of District 1 on this coming Election Day.

Chris will bring a powerful new voice to deal with these issues. Even those of us not in District 1 will benefit from his rigorously disciplined analysis, well informed by decades of experience in the context of real estate development, and especially his honor in participating in Board of Supervisors decision-making for the whole county.
