Smithfield rang in the holidays on Nov. 17, six days ahead of Thanksgiving, with the return of the town’s annual tree-lighting festivities. For the first time on the town’s newly renovated Main Street Square Stage in front of The Smithfield Times office, Trinity United Methodist Church’s preschool choir and Smithfield High School’s Jazz Band performed Christmas carols. Dr. Lannie Hinson, a dentist, Air Force veteran and 17-year director of the 1750 Isle of Wight Courthouse, was this year’s tree-lighter.
