Faith Walsh Hoffstaetter passed away in her home in Newport News on November 14, 2023. Faith was born in Flushings, New York, on January 20, 1939. She was one of four children. While in high school she met her future husband, Harold Hoffstaetter. They were married on June 29, 1958, and quickly started their family. Harold joined the Navy and they eventually settled in Virginia–first in Norfolk and then in Carrollton where they raised their eight children. All eight children–Anne, Jean, John, Karen, Daniel, Gary, Faith, and Rose graduated from Smithfield High School.
Faith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Harold as well as her three oldest daughters, Anne, Jean, and Karen. She’s survived by her children John, Daniel, Gary, Faith, and Rose as well as her grandchildren Eric, Belinda, Karen, Brian, Jennifer, Heather, Ron, Zach, Tim, Sarah, Greg, and Megan. Mrs. Hoffstaetter was a great-grandmother as well.
Faith will be remembered for her faith and family. She was a longtime member of St. Augustine’s Chapel in Carrollton. Faith was the primary caregiver for her husband following a car accident that left him paralyzed. In addition, in her role as Nana, Faith devoted many hours to caring for her grandchildren. Faith also enjoyed reading with children and was a frequent guest reader at Hardy Elementary where several of her grandchildren attended. In her later years, Faith enjoyed crafting, playing BINGO, and spending time with her two cats.
Faith will be interred at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on December 5, 2023 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Isle of Wight Animal Shelter.
