With profound sorrow, I announce the passing of my precious sister, a priceless gift to me and this world, Gloria Jean Benton Baker.
Gloria was born on September 28,1943 and passed to glory peacefully on November 6, 2023 in Crozet, Virginia. Gloria was born in Lumberton, North Carolina to Maude Manning Benton and Lucian Maurice Benton, whre she enjoyed a childhood of singing with her sisters and parents and playing on the sandy beaches of the North Carolina’s Atlantic Shores at the “duplex” her Dad had built. She grew up with her three sisters, Patricia, Shirley and Ginny – Maude and Maurice’s “four beautiful girls.”
In her high school days she happened to meet a good looking guy from Newport News High School. His name was Wesley Edward Baker Jr. After graduated they (Gloria was a Hampton High School girl) had a beautiful old-fashioned wedding at Westhampton Baptist Church. They remained steadfastly supportive of each other and forever in love. They became the parents of a tiny little son. They named him Gregory Alan Baker.
Gloria is survived by her three sisters; her son, Greg and his wife Gina and dozens of nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at her church in Louisa that she loved so much on Friday, December 8 at 11 a.m. Macedonia Global Methodist is located at 17 Byrd Mill Road, Louisa, Virginia 23093. Come and share and join the prayers of God’s goodness.
