Woman’s Club donates surplus bears for sheriff’s office

The Woman’s Club of Smithfield recently benefited from an overstock supply of stuffed Christmas bears from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital received by Jared Jewelry in Newport News.
Because of the Woman’s Club of Smithfield participation in a St. Jude Walk, club member Peggy Christian received the 24 stuffed bears.
In the spirit of Christmas, the woman’s club donated the bears to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Department to give to children when they are taking on a call.
On Dec. 19, officer Sean Lacy and his canine golden lab partner, Pixel, arrived tato the Smithfield Center during the Woman’s Club Christmas Social to collect the donation and speak on how this donation will be used to comfort children.
Club President Janice Dolensky called the donation a “hug of love” from the Woman’s Club of Smithfield.
