UPDATE: Service was restored at approximately 7 p.m.
A ruptured pipe cut water to roughly 10 houses at the corner of Greenbrier Lane and Battery Park Road in Smithfield for several hours on Jan. 3.
Service was restored around 7 p.m. the same day, Town Manager Michael Stallings said.
The break in the water main was caused by a bolt failure that allowed a valve to come apart, Stallings said.
Stallings said the town plans to let the site settle and then come back to repave the section of road that was disturbed.
