WHRO Public Media President and Chief Executive Officer Bert Schmidt was guest speaker at a recent Smithfield Kiwanis Club meeting where he provided an overview of the organization. Schmidt, at right, is pictured with our Smithfield Kiwanis President Steve Jordan, at left. Schmidt also gave a brief recap of the public media station’s history. WHRO began in 1961 with the goal of supporting the Norfolk and Hampton school boards. Clearly it has grown and is now affiliated with 21 school districts in Hampton Roads, providing a wide range of educational programs. Club members enjoyed his presentation and learned a great deal. Anyone interested in joining Kiwanis is invited to come to any Thursday meeting at 12:30 p.m. at Smithfield Station. Enjoy fellowship and lunch and consider becoming part of an organization dedicated to serving the youth in the community. The club generally hosts guest speakers on the second and third Thursdays of the month.
