Surry motorcyclist dies after allegedly fleeing traffic stop

A Surry County motorcyclist who police say fled a traffic stop died after losing control of his vehicle.
Virginia State Police were called to Sussex County at 6:07 p.m. on Feb. 15 to investigate the crash on Rolfe Highway.
According to police, the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office had observed 45-year-old James Charles Farey of Elberon driving without registration. Police say Farey fled at high speed when a deputy attempted to pull him over. Farey ran off the roadway and struck a ditch, causing himself and the motorcycle to become airborne and land inside a wooded area. Farey died upon impact.
The crash remains under investigation.
