John “Jackie” Edward Everett, 76, of Smithfield, VA passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024. 

He was the son of the late John Edward Everett and Selma Louise Thorne Everett. Jackie was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church; he retired from Gwaltney Meat Packing as a salesman.

Jackie is also preceded in death by his brother, David “Bit” Everett. He is survived by his brother, Robert “Bobby” Everett of Smithfield; nephews, Mason Everett and Daniel Everett; and a niece, Lindsey Everett; and his longtime and devoted friend, Tommy Jones.

He played first base on the Surrey House Men’s Softball team that won the USSSA 1973 State Championship, the highlight of his softball career, playing on many other softball teams. He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. Jackie had a contagious smile and has many relatives and friends that have fond memories of his generosity and kindness. He loved them all. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 in St. Luke’s Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
