Editor, The Smithfield Times:

First, I was dismayed that Mr. Albert Burckard (“Not a fan of Jenkinson,” April 24) would take the position that the Historical Society should not invite someone who might have an unpopular position. 

Second, I doubt he attended the event since his comment “the Historical Society should focus on telling the exciting story of our own country’s remarkable history” ignored the passionate case Mr. Jeninson in his Jefferson persona made for American exceptionalism.  

Finally, I have read the transcript from one of Jenkinson’s podcasts where he outlines the basis of his comments about Castro. It is available at https://jeffersonhour.com/blog/radical. While one is welcome to disagree with him, the argument he presents is certainly worth considering.
