Smithfield Police seeking stabbing suspect

Smithfield Police are seeking a suspect accused of stabbing a man.
Police were dispatched on Thursday afternoon, May 2, to the 600 block of Quail Street, where they found a man with a stab wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is receiving treatment, according to a department news release published to the department’s Facebook page a few minutes after 7 p.m.
Police have named Tarvarus Kea, 49, of Smithfield as the suspect.
“Authorities are actively searching for Kea, who is considered armed and dangerous,” the news release states. “The Smithfield Police Department urges the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to Tarvarus Kea’s whereabouts. Members of the community are advised not to approach the suspect; instead, any sightings or information should be immediately reported to the police.”
According to Smithfield Police Lt. William Wooley, Kea has active warrants for malicious wounding and possession of ammunition by a felon.
