Isle of Wight Academy’s varsity softball team punched its ticket to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state championship game in decisive fashion on May 16 in Sutherland, but fell 14-2 to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in the title game on May 17.

The No. 2-seeded Lady Chargers defeated No. 3 Fredericksburg Christian School 11-1 in the state semifinals on May 16 to improve to 16-7 on the season overall.

Katilyn Springle had three hits to pace IWA to a 16-5 win over Seton School in the quarterfinals on May 13.

Springle doubled in the fourth and third innings and senior Nora Pye pitched a complete game, surrendering four hits and five runs over the 5-inning game.

The Lady Chargers closed their regular season with a perfect week, defeating Central Virginia Home School 9-1 on May 7 and Christchurch 8-0 on May 9.

IWA’s baseball team, seeded seventh, played No. 2 Greenbrier Christian for the third time this season, this time with a spot in the semifinals in the VISAA Division II draw at stake, on May 14, and fell to Greenbrier 15-0.

IWA is winless in its last nine contests against the Greenbrier Gators, its longest losing streak against any of its opponents.

IWA closed out its regular season with a 1-2 week, defeating Christchurch 2-1 and falling to Highland School 6-1 in Warrenton. The Chargers were also defeated by Greenbrier Christian 16-1 on May 6.

The IWA golf team qualified for state tournament play on May 13. The top six players – seniors Kenley Keane and Sawyer Conrad; junior Grayson Brock; sophomore Spencer Conrad; and eighth-graders Ben Duffee and Jack Sims – played at Williamsburg National Golf Course.

The IWA track squad competed in the Marlin Invitational at Virginia Wesleyan on May 13. Junior Jayce Joyner broke the school record for the 200M and the 1600M; classmate Robert Sullivan broke the record for the 400M.
