Rusted Root relocates to Windsor

After eight months in Rushmere, The Rusted Root has relocated to Windsor.
The pastry and sandwich shop that opened in November in an outbuilding next to the former Barlow’s Country Store off Old Stage Highway cited “issues with our building manager” in a June 6 post on the business’s Facebook page.
Andrew White, who owns the Rusted Root’s former location in Rushmere, said Powell’s tenancy was in his view a “month to month situation.”
The business has relocated to the shopping center adjacent to the Windsor Food Lion.
Haley Powell, in a March interview with The Smithfield Times, said she’d opened The Rusted Root to combine her love of plants and baking. In addition to food, The Rusted Root offers houseplants for sale like Monstera, also known as the Swiss cheese plant for its hole-filled leaves, and more expensive and rare varieties like Philodendron Ring of Fire, named for its mixed green, red and orange foliage.
The new location is closer to Powell’s home in Windsor, where she bakes the day’s offerings from scratch using her own recipes.
