“Fit Body Boot Camp,” a gym franchise with more than 200 locations across the United States and Canada, is proposing its next in the Smithfield Commons shopping center next to the McDonald’s on South Church Street.

Smithfield’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing during its 6 p.m. meeting on July 9 on the application of Edmo Soares, the applicant, and JVC LLC, the shopping center’s owner, for a special use permit to allow an “indoor commercial recreation facility” at 1807 South Church Street, according to an advertisement published in the June 26 edition of The Smithfield Times.

The application calls for a Fit Body Boot Camp location that would offer 30-minute workouts split into sessions from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a coach and 20 clients on average per session. The application calls for two to five employees and a general manager.

Fit Body, according to its website, was founded in 2009 and became a franchise in 2012.
