Smithfield finishes strong in PONY tournaments

The Smithfield Recreation Association’s 12-and-under blue district all-star team became the 2024 East Zone Bronco 12U District 1 champions after playing in a tournament hosted by Kempsville PONY Baseball. They are also headed to the Section Tournament July 5 at Great Neck Baseball League in Virginia Beach. The Smithfield Recreation Association’s ages 7-and-under baseball team won the PONY Section Tournament Championship on June 25 at the Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association, going 4-0 in the tournament without a single strikeout among them. They are headed to the PONY South Region Championship on July 5 in High Point, North Carolina. The Smithfield Recreation Association’s ages 8-and-under baseball team finished third in the PONY District Tournament, held June 25 at the Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association. The boys went 4-2 over four days and lost a heartbreaker Tuesday night 4-3 in the semifinals against a strong Windsor team. This team also took second at the SYAA Invitational held Father’s Day weekend. SRA’s ages 9-and-under district all-star team placed third in the 2024 East Zone Mustang 9U Section Tournament hosted by SRA at Luter Sports Complex. SRA hosted the PONY ages 10-and-under and ages 12-and-under District 2 and 9-and-under South Region Championship all-star tournaments June 26-30 at the Luter Sports Complex with teams competing in all three divisions. The 10U team went undefeated, becoming the East Zone Mustang 10U District champions. The 10U team will head to the Section Tournament on July 5 at Great Neck Baseball League in Virginia Beach. SRA’s 12-and-under red all-star baseball team became the 2024 East Zone Bronco 12U District 2 champion, going undefeated at championship tournaments held June 26-30 at the Luter Sports Complex.
