Linda Suzanne Voorhies

Linda Suzanne Voorhies, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away on July 6, 2024, at the age of 75.  

Suzanne was the daughter of Bonnie Jean Davis Peters and John Lloyd Peters. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jacqueline Pierce.

Suzanne is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Walter Harper Voorhies II, her daughters Jeannette Voorhies and Jacki Voorhies, Jacki’s husband, Jeff Craig and her cherished grandchildren Austin Churchwell, Holden Craig, Finley Craig, and Jillian Churchwell. She is also survived by her brother, John Peters and his wife, Jennifer Peters, her brother-in-law, Jim Pierce, and many adored nieces and nephews.

Suzanne dedicated much of her life to teaching and inspiring others through art. She spent 25 years teaching art at Nansemond Suffolk Academy lower school, where she touched the lives of countless students with her creativity and passion. After a brief retirement, Suzanne embarked on a second 18-year career alongside her daughter Jacki as an art teacher at Saint Patrick Catholic School in Norfolk, Virginia. Her commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering creativity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

An artist at heart, Suzanne found beauty in every aspect of life. Her artwork reflected her deep appreciation for the world around her, and she instilled this love for art in her students and family alike. Suzanne believed strongly in the importance of family bonds and cultivated deep, meaningful relationships throughout her life.

Suzanne Voorhies will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and her unwavering love for her family, friends and students. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and a passion for life that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Suzanne’s life will be held on Friday, July 12 at 11:00 am at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23504. 

Burial will be in New Albany, Indiana on July 15 at 2:00 pm at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.

Suzanne’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
