SRA baseball continues winning streak

Two Smithfield Recreation Association baseball teams are advancing to the July 11-13 South Region Championship Tournament in High Point, North Carolina, after going undefeated at the July 5-7 Section Tournament at Great Neck Baseball League in Virginia Beach.

Smithfield’s ages 10-and-under team took down Great Neck 9-2 in their first game, held July 5, then defeated Southern Chesapeake on July 6, 19-9, and Great Neck again on July 7, 12-2 in the championship game. Smithfield’s ages 12-and-under Red District all-stars took down Kempsville in their first game on July 5, 18-8, then Great Neck on July 6, 7-0. The championship game on July 7, which went nine innings and lasted almost four hours, saw Smithfield win with a final score of 22-13, again versus Great Neck.
