Severe thunderstorm watch issued for IW, Surry counties

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Isle of Wight and Surry counties through 9 p.m. on July 18.
According to the NWS, showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 80% with rainfall between a quarter- to half-inch possible, coupled with northwest winds around 7 mph.
The rain is expected to continue overnight with another quarter- to half-inch possible.
