David loved life and made friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and quick wit were his trademark but he also had a soft spot and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

David loved sports and was a devoted fan of Nascar racing, the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils. He also loved the outdoors, especially fishing off the beaches of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the coast of Virginia.  He was fortunate to follow the many sports achievements of his grandsons who he loved dearly.

He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Little Westbrooks (Jeff), grandchildren, Jacob Howard (Whitney), Hunter Westbrooks (girlfriend, Avery Griggs), Tyler Westbrooks and great-grandson Riley Howard all of Mebane, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sisters, Bobbie Mason (Don) of Roswell, Georgia, Sally Turner (Brad) of Columbus, Georgia, his aunts Betty Duncan and Sally Riley, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was predeceased by his parents and his canine companion, Buddy.

The family will have a private interment service at Mill Swamp Baptist Church cemetery in Virginia. A celebration of his life will be held in Smithfield, Virginia at a later date.
