Pittman, prior to being found, was reportedly last seen at 3:50 a.m. on Aug. 18 in the vicinity of 3300 Hog Island Road.

According to Surry County Sheriff Carlos Turner, Pittman was found more than 40 miles away in Franklin by the city’s police department.

The State Police missing-person alert had alleged Pittman to have been abducted, and had named 53-year-old Franklin Merrill Nichols of Surry as a suspect. According to Turner, Nichols has been taken into custody and is being held at the Riverside Regional Jail on four felony charges – abduction, strangulation, breaking and entering, and violation of a protective order – as well as misdemeanor domestic assault.

“This remains an active investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues,” Turner said.
