A Windsor woman and a Portsmouth man are facing burglary and narcotics charges after being arrested in connection with an Aug. 22 break-in Citgo gas station and convenience store on Brewers Neck Boulevard in Smithfield.

According to an Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office news release, 25-year-old Emily Miles of Windsor and 51-year-old Saraf Eugene Taylor of Portsmouth were arrested at a BP gas station on Bridge Road in Suffolk in a vehicle matching the description provided by a passerby who reported seeing three people smash the Citgo store’s glass door earlier that morning. When deputies arrived, they say they found merchandise leading out of the smashed door.

The third suspect and alleged driver of the vehicle, whom deputies identified as 42-year-old Roger Dale Newelle III of Suffolk, allegedly fled the Suffolk gas station on foot before deputies arrived and as of 2:30 p.m. had not been located.

Newelle was last seen in the 2500 block of Bridge Road. Deputies, with assistance from Suffolk Police, set up a perimeter but, after several hours of searching, terminated the search without locating Newelle.

Newelle, in addition to facing felony burglary, conspiracy and destruction of property charges connected to the Aug. 22 burglary, is wanted for failure to appear on assault and battery charges from a previous incident.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of Newelle to not approach him and call the office at 757-257-2151, submit a tip to p3tips.com or call the crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Tipsters remain anonymous and won’t have to testify in court. Tips that lead to an arrest  can earn the caller a reward of up to $1,500.
