Mrs. Elizabeth Carol Webb, 83, widow of Andrew (Andy) J. Webb, Jr., passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Carol was born on March 12, 1941, in Sweet Springs, WV to Grover and Ethel Porterfield. While working as a secretary for the FBI in Washington DC, Carol met Andy Webb, a U.S. Air Force Airman from White Sulphur Springs, WV. Carol and Andy were married on June 9, 1962, at Cokesbury Methodist Church in Gap Mills, WV. As the wife of her Air Force husband, they traveled the United States and abroad for the various duty assignments, including Hampton, VA; Honolulu, HI; Sumter, SC; Ocean Springs, MS; Newport News, VA; Zaire, Africa; and then back to Newport News, VA, where Andy retired from the Air Force after 30 years and then began a 17-year civil service career.

While Andy dutifully served his country, Carol embraced the roles of wife and mother and would oftentimes provide the sole guidance and care to her sons, Stephen and Michael. This included times during Andy’s assignments to Vietnam, temporary duty stations in the U.S., and extended training commitments across the U.S. Carol accepted Christ in 1971 and worked in a variety of roles in the Church, both in MS and VA. She ensured her sons and later, her grandchildren, were read and taught God’s Word and understood the importance of faith in our Savior.

After Andy’s death in 2005, Carol remained at the family home in Newport News for almost 20 years before moving to Smithfield to live with family in her “Nana’s Suite.”  The devoted mother was an equally devoted Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Giving gifts to others and showing love through acts of service gave Carol an immense sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Ethel, her husband, Andy; three sisters, Peggy Cook (Jim), Judy Magrum (Ronnie), Gail Crosier; and one brother, Dale Porterfield. She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Karen) and Michael (Carole King); five grandchildren, Andrew (Brittney), Mindy, Kassidy (Seth), Aaron (Morgan), and Caroline; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Maddie, and Hensley; two sisters, Betty Jean Flanagan (Charlie), Margaret Carter (Paul); and one brother, Jim Porterfield (Sue). She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Buffo, Linda Fernandez (Wayne), Martha Mazey (Larry), and Shelby Porterfield; many nieces and nephews; as well as her special friends, Carolyn Piper (Brady) and Patti Hackney (Warren).
