Letter – Roundabout is ‘lunacy’

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
I haven’t had a reason to complain about VDOT in a long time. Various requests for additional signage and other devices at intersections were installed quickly in Carrollton and a malfunctioning traffic light was fixed in less than 12 hours.
However, the planner’s idea for a million dollars on a ridiculous roundabout is about as pathetically putrid a plan as any politician could pontificate.
To consider that nearby a sprawling school complex destined to become the next Pentagon feeds into this planned circular craziness is bad enough, with hundreds of buses zooming through, too big to round the curves, but then more housing will be funneling hundreds of cars and just adds to the insanity.
Everywhere there is a round robin for automotive anxiety, you’ll find delirious drivers devoid of basic common sense: All cars go to the right in counterclockwise calmness. But no, I find drivers going left as if Down Under, and even one clueless car spotted stuck in the bushes for thinking he could drive over the circled curb as a shortcut.
Ever since the “pandemic” the roads are doubly deadly both to life and our wits. Building an overpriced roundabout of idiocy is not a solution.
