Isle of Wight County Schools will close to students and staff on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to expected snow.

“After closely monitoring the National Weather Service and local forecasts as well as consulting with the emergency services, it appears that snow will impact our area overnight,” IWCS said in a statement just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday. “Given these predictions and the likelihood of hazardous road conditions, all IWCS schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, for all students and staff. This includes all after-school and evening activities. SOL testing for middle school students scheduled for tomorrow will occur on Thursday. We appreciate your understanding as we all work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”

Surry County Public Schools announced on social media it would operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisor through 7 a.m. Wednesday for Isle of Wight and Surry counties, which states two to three inches of snow accumulation is expected, with the highest totals closer to the coast. The Smithfield area is expected to see one to three inches overnight Tuesday to Wednesday.
Both localities are also under a cold weather advisory from midnight to 10 a.m.  Air temperatures are expected to range from a low of 20 degrees to a high of 28 degrees Wednesday.
