Eugene Max Koser

Eugene Max Koser gently met his Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2021. He was predeceased by Maxine, his wife of 43 years. He is survived by his son, Richard K. Barstow; grandson, David Lee Barstow; great-grandson, Tyler; step-son, Kenneth L. Billue and wife, Wendy, and their children and grandchildren.

Max was born in Chambersburg, Pa., March 2, 1932. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1971 as a radioman, chief petty officer. He participated in the Lebanon landing in 1958, and had a six-month War Patrol in the Tonkin Gulf in 1967. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Norfolk office, in 1992, with 22 years of service, working 14 of those years at the Norfolk Naval Base. Subsequently, he worked seven years at Christopher Newport University. Max graduated from Tidewater Community College in 1979, and Christopher Newport University in 1990. He was an active member in Senior Games on the local, state and national level since 1988.

Max lived in Carrollton with Maxine in the home they built together in 1977. He recently moved to Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, is handling arrangements. www.SturtevantFH.com.
