Barbara Jean Standley

Barbara Jean Standley, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Homestead Assisted Living in Wellington at the age of 85.
She was born the daughter of Harvey O. and Violet (Wells) Elmore on June 1, 1936, in Parson, Kansas. Barbara graduated from Erie (KS) High School and then went on to attend some college courses. On Aug. 26, 1954, she and Charles “Charlie” Standley were united in marriage in Erie, Kansas, and celebrated 45 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. Barbara was employed as a clerk at the Rexall Drug Store and retired after 32 years of employment. Outside of work, she was very involved in her community as a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion in Erie. Barbara volunteered with Beta Sigma Phi, the Recreation Commission, the American Red Cross, a leader in the local 4-H, and served on the County Health Board in Erie. She will also be remembered by many as the Erie Swim Lessons Program lead, which she did for more than 22 years. Later in life, Barbara relocated to the Wichita and Wellington area, where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Conni Teter and husband, Randy, of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Terri Maffei, of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Tobe Schneider, of Wellington, Kansas; son, Jeffrey Standley and wife, Natalie, of Smithfield; sister, Ruth Banzet, of Erie, Kansas; sister, Phyllis Wheat, of Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren, Jared Schneider, Monica Monroe and husband Jim, Morgan Standley, Logan Standley, Jaclyn Smith and husband, Jack, and Carly Ramsey; and two great-grandchildren, Rose Schneider and Hunter Schneider.
The family will receive and visit friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at the Cornejo Funeral Home.
Memorial services for Barbara will begin at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at the Erie Federated Church, 202 S. Main St., Erie, Kansas. Interment will follow at the East Hill Cemetery, Erie, Kansas. After all services are completed, the family will receive friends in the basement of Erie Federated Church until 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be given in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1820 E. Douglas Avenue, Wichita, KS 67214. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
